Why The Top Performers Focus On Mindset

There is no doubt, the human mind is incredibly powerful.

How we think is often the driver for everything that eventually happens to us in life.

The best part is. You get to choose.

Have you ever wondered why the top performers in real estate (or any industry for that matter) place a huge emphasis on Mindset? It’s because this is where the growth journey truly begins, and continues indefinitely for as long as we are alive. That’s right, these people understand that managing your mind is a lifelong commitment.

But one that is 1000% worth it if you want to be successful.

As agents, we live in a constant grind of decision making, managing emotions (other people’s and our own), strategic thinking, negotiating and the utter busy-ness that comes with always being on the run.

We’re often placed in situations where we need to think on our feet, smooth things over or organise something for our clients, and how we approach each and every one of these tasks will not only come down to our work-based skillset, but also, how we are pre-programmed upstairs.

You know when you see those agents who seem to just sail through real estate life, attracting great business, signing up the best clients and closing deals effortlessly without too much fuss. Why is it that these people exist, but in complete opposite, there are others who seem to do it so much tougher, and never make it past the $100K mark.

Yes, they obviously have the sales and marketing skills required to get the job done right and well, but I’ll bet their mindset has played a pivotal role in their success journey.

So one must ask themselves …

Is my head right for this game?

And do I have the capacity to break through the mediocrity to get to where I want to go in my career?

Being an independent agent with no onsite team (outside of the hubby from time to time), I constantly live in my head.

I’m always thinking about what the next best move is, how I can better manage my energy levels and of course, how I can deliver the very best results for my clients so everyone is happy.

As you can imagine, there’s a fair bit going on.

But let’s be honest, what I described above is just the normal day to day stuff of a typical real estate professional.

What about the bigger, more life-changing moves?

This is where one really needs to lean on their mindset game because it is often the difference between mediocrity and massive success. To make those impactful shifts, you need to have done the work upstairs. I know it all too well.

If deep down you don’t believe you can do something, then your subconscious will set out to prove you right.

For example, if you don’t think you’re worthy of signing a big-ticket client, you probably won’t. You’ll secretly sabotage the meeting - blaming your task based skillset, instead of looking deeper within where the real problem lies.

You never believed you were the right fit for that potential client and they sensed it.

I honestly believe that when it comes to a successful career in real estate, everything ultimately comes back to mindset.

It’s how I was able to take that leap of faith out on my own as an Independent Buyer’s Agent and make a success of it for ten consecutive years.

Making Those Shifts Isn’t Easy.

As human beings, many of the beliefs we hold about ourselves and our abilities are ingrained from a very early time in our lives, and that’s why changing the way you see things through your own individual lens is one of the most challenging things a person can do.

Transitioning from Seller’s Agent to Buyer’s Agent.

When I made the switch from Seller’s Agent to Buyer’s Agent in 2014, one of the greatest hurdles I faced was changing my mindset to believe that charging clients for a service that in my world “simply bought them a house” was in fact a legitimate business.

At this time, the Buyer’s Agent space was new to the real estate scene, and for me, I found it hard to believe that anyone would pay an agent to buy them a house. For more than a decade, I had witnessed buyers doing it all by themselves, so why would anyone pay someone to act for them in a property purchase transaction?

It wasn’t the job at hand or the tasks associated with performing the role of a Buyer’s Agent that were bogging me down - it was my belief that what I was doing was in fact legit.

It wasn’t until I started to see and believe the value I was offering my clients that the shift started to occur and my perception of the role of a Buyer’s Agent changed.

How you can create a success mindset.

In my Masterclass for Women in Real Estate, I outline the ways in which I went about changing my limiting beliefs and how you can apply the same step by step approach to get the results I did.

Module 1 of the course deep dives into Mindset specifically for Agents. What our specific challenges are and how we can best navigate these from a place of calm and control.
